Sugar

My sugar this week is a little different than all the other weeks. I think it's really fun to look back on your life and draw inspiration from things that have happened to you to make you who you are. So my sugar for this week is...ME!

I hope you enjoy haha. As you can see I used to loveee taking picture of myself.

Have a great Grammy Sunday! Perhaps this week I'll share my opinions on the red carpet fashions :)

Red Lipstick

Hello hello,

Today I was feeling rather glamorous (if I do say so myself) so I curled my hair and threw on some red lipstick and a great pair of heels. Then, all dressed up, I went to grab some groceries because sadly, my life here isn't all that exciting. If I'm lucky I'll go out tonight and have some fun.

In the meantime, I'm here bloggin with you all. I have a little favor to ask. I really have no idea who reads my blog so I feel like you would be a good group to ask this question to.
In one of my classes I have to do a project about the way I am viewed by others. If you are a regular reader (or if this is your first time stopping by) I would appreciate it forever if you'd leave me a comment with one word that you feel describes me. Be honest! Bad or good I can use it for my project. If you're shy you can comment anonymously!!

How do you all feel about red lips? I'm completely obsessed with the whole "sexy librarian" thing right now. Big glasses and red lips. Do you think I can rock it?

Here are some pictures of beautifullll shades of red lipstick.

Don't forget! Leave a comment telling me how you view me. It can be just one word if you'd like!

See you all tomorrow for some sugar

Last night I was coerced into going out and having a good time by my roommates. Being back at school has posed a problem as far as me posting every day. I'm going to figure out a time that works every day so that I can be consistent again. I think it's adorable to blog in a coffee shop. So "city" :). I may have to start that up.

I missed my purse post last night so here it is!

My purse was bought used from my work in Phoenix. It's a beautiful black leather hobo from Banana Republic and looks pretty small but holds EVERYTHING I would ever want or need :).

Inside my purse (or backpack, now that school has started) on a regular day you'll find the following...

-fake glasses. I usually keep a pair on me because I think they're a lot of fun and you never know when you'll need to throw on a disguise!
-my point and shoot camera
-ipod
-Body spray from bath and body works. When it's hot in the city and I'm running through the streets to catch the train, I need something that smells good to spray on for a quick fix
-mints
-advil (or really any kind of medicine that will alleviate headaches and cramps)
-Mini lotion for dry hands in the winter
-Gum! (the pina colada kind is just delicious)
-hand sanitizer. When you get off of the public transportation you need something to clean your hands
-tissues for winter colds
-Yes to carrots chapstick
-Water
-Sunglasses
-my phone
-a pen
-my moleskin planner
-I also usually have my most recent knitting project and a book along for the ride but my book is in my bed right now and my knitting is too big for my purse right now!

Last night I had a wonderful time. Again, so sorry about the lack of a post. I'm going to get better! It's always difficult adjusting to a new schedule so I'll be back into the swing of things as soon as possible.

I bought some embroidery hoops tonight and got home so excited to start a new project only to realize that I forgot to buy needles. I'll have to remedy the situation tomorrow. I think that I'm going to paint another picture this week because it was so much fun back home and I miss it! Other things on the agenda include taking pictures for a shop update (I'm just awful about putting finished items into the store) and promoting my blog a little bit :).

I'm off to finish some homework because one of my goals was to get straight A's this semester. I'm going to get a jump start on that!

bloggy bloggy blog

I loveee marketing :). And textiles. If I could market a product while rolling around a vat of various textiles I'd be a really happy young lady!

Okay... that may be a bit of an exaggeration. Today I had some more school. If you couldn't tell what classes I had from my odd proclamation of love above, I'll share here :).

First I went to Fundamentals of Textiles. My teacher is such a sweet lady and I am really excited about the class (one of the units involves KNITTING. BEST NEWS EVER!). Today we burnt various fabrics as part of an experiment trying to decide what they were made of (so fun. Anything that involves fire is great). So, needless to say, I'm really excited about that class.

My second class was Introduction to Marketing. Being a single young lady, I'm always holding out the hope that I'll run into some attractive young men who can serve as some eye candy :). In this class there are TWO CUTE BOYS! THIS IS GOLD. hahahaa I'm a disaster. I am so excited about this class. I LOVE the material am I am absolutely fascinated. I can't wait to learn everything about marketing.

I'm off to do some homework and try to get some knitting done :).
I'll be back tomorrow with some inspiration and a purse post!

annnd you all know I hate to leave you without any visual inspiration, so here is a picture of some embroidery I can't get enough of. I want to do some painting and then embroidery it for a little extra embellishment or flair!

SO MANY TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES! :( :(

I am having the worst luck these past few days with internet and blogging. I keep posting and signing out only to sign in the next day and realize that NOTHING POSTED! I am beyond frustrated. The internet in my dorm is extremely unreliable and deceiving too I guess... ugh...

(weheartit)

I started class today and I had a really good day :). My first class is a "finding yourself in college" type of class and even though I think it's pretty stupid, I enjoyed it because a lot of my friends are in it as well. It was wonderful! My other class was fundamentals of 3-D design. It seems like it's going to be a LOT of work. I can't decide if I'm excited about it or if I'm going to hate it. We built these sculpture things out of cardboard as a quick little exercise. I'll keep you updated on how the class progresses and I'm going to try really hard to share some pictures of the work I do because I always think it's fun to see everyone's creative process. Disclaimer: I am an art STUDENT. Be nice about my work! It's not going to be up to par yet. I am quite the perfectionist and I feel weird sharing work that isn't absolutely perfect.

I checked today and I now have 8 followers! Welcome newcomers, I'm soo excited that people actually read this. I really never expected anyone to be interested! My blog was just a way to share my crafts and college life with everyone and be sure to keep up with my writing. If I can get up to 20 official followers I will host my very first giveaway.

Speaking of giveaways, my friend Lyndsey is hosting one of her own right now! It looks like a wonderful collection of goodies so you should head on over to her blog and enter. Check her out at Her Sunday Dress!

I'm almost done with yet another book. I would love to recommend it to all of you.

This one isn't for the kiddos. There are a lot of pictures so if you're a conservative one, this may not be for you either. It's beautifully written though and the story of Jeanna Jameson's life is absolutely captivating. It's a longg book and I've plowed through it in only 4 days.

I'm really sleepy and I think I'm getting sick so I'm going to cut this post a bit short. I think that later this week (God willing and the creek don't rise) I'll post a "what's in my bag" entry. I love peeking into portions of other people's lives and looking into someone's purse is always a great way to learn about them.

Have a wonderful Tuesday!

AH!

I was traveling all day yesterday so I cued up a post and it DIDN'T WORK! I'm feeling pretty betrayed by the internet right now... haha Oh well, live and learn.

I'm back in my apartment (cooking some peppermint patty brownies as I type) and trying to ease back into my chicago way of life. I don't know if I'm ready to go back to school yet but I don't have a whole lot of time to figure that out because class stars on monday (eek!).

If you haven't checked out my etsy shop yet, please take the time to stop by. I posted some really cute hats. Within the next week or so I'll have some adorable headbands up and HOPEFULLY a couple scarves/cowls. I'll keep you posted. It all just depends on how much homework I have and how busy school makes me.

My giveaway will be coming as soon as I get 20 followers (to follow me, simply click the "follow" button on the top of my page. It REALLY is that easy!!). But in the meantime, check out this lovely giveaway. I think the polaroid camera is a SCORE! I entered :).

Hmmm, other info. I started a formspring. I doubt anyone has any questions to ask me, but it's on the side of my page if you come up with anything! I'll post the questions and answers here once I get a few.

Finallllyyyy. It is SUNDAY. So here is your sugar :).

This day is quite exciting :). I put a few items in my shop (MUCH more to come VERY soon).

Go check them out!!

I am soooooo happy to finally have some things back in my shop. Keep an eye out for some adorable headbands later on and hopefully I start filling the other categories soon :).

Soooo GO BUY A HAT!

Thank you soo much :)
-Mal

this is AWESOME!

I'm up really early today because I had to grab my boarding pass for tomorrow. (A41 baby!!) I'll try to be back later with a craft related post but I had to share this because I really am excited about it.

Cindy McCain has come out publicly FOR gay marriage. This is HUGE. You can check out the whole article here.

I try not to post too many personal opinions on here because this is supposed to be a place where I can share crafting and inspiration. But I decided to make an exception for this. I am really opposed to the bans on gay marriage and I love to see that people are finally speaking out against it.

Have a lovely afternoon :)

I only have one more day in Phoneix :(

I'm a bit somber... Also, it's raining like CRAZY here so I'm trying to keep my spirits up in spite of the weather.

Yesterday I went to goodwill in search of some books. I STRUCK GOLD! I got a whopping FIFTEEN books for THIRTY dollars. I am so excited I can't even handle it.

I feel like I post pictures of books/libraries a lot... I just love them SO MUCH!

Have a good night

February....in January?

Loveee love love love. Outwardly, I'm quite cynical towards love. I'm currently single and I've never had a boyfriend. I've spent every Valentines day by myself, etc, etc. This has all led me to really dislike LoVe and talk of soul mates and really cute couples. I'm like the crazy snake lady at the end of the street who throws garbage at the happy people walking by. Having said that, I secretly adore Valentines day. I LOVE all the pink and red. The hearts are SO cute and inspirational (god only knows why I'm inspired by one of the most basic shapes around?) and I love all of the flowers and decorations. I can't wait until February. I'm going to come up with a few Valentines themed tutorials to share with you :)

In anticipation of Valentines day (and my FAVORITE month) I'm going to share some premature February images.

I'm only 15 posts away from the big 100 :)

I would loveeee to have 20 followers by my 100th post. Spread the word about my blog! I don't have anything to offer you for your services...sadly. Maybe for those who promote me (and comment the link to said promotion) will be entered in a drawing for a cute knit hat :). I'll do my best to create a button for my blog that you can post in your sidebar.

In other news, happy Tuesday everyone! I'm only in phoenix for a few more days so I'm soaking up all the sunshine that it has to offer. Silly phoenix...raining my last week home.

I'm still working so hard towards a shop update. I want to post at least 10 items in this first update. I hope to add a lot of items in the coming weeks so keep posted! In addition to knitting, I have been painting with my little brother since I've been home. I love that he has an interest in art and anything I can do to encourage that is great. I painted a CUTE green monster yesterday.

what do you think? It was REALLY quick and easy (clearly) but is super cute.
It was so fun and I think he's completely adorable :).

I also REALLY want this small duffel from Vera Bradley.

See you all tomorrow :)

Book post!

I'm reading a FANTASTIC book right now about relationships (you may have seen the movie, He's Just Not That Into You).

It is hilarious and I feel like I wrote it myself. I have what most people would see as a cynical view towards relationships and men. I have little to no patience for shenanigans such as cheating, drug/alcohol use, and excuses about fear of intimacy. My whole life I've though such events were simply intolerable and, as a result, I have never found a boy to call my boyfriend. I've been told many times that I'm never going to find someone because I'm "too picky" or because--as my mom likes to say--I like to string guys along until I have them, then just let them go. BUT none of this is true! I'm not too picky, I just know how I want to be treated and I can tell when it's not right. It's as simple as that. I have ALWAYS believed that when a guy actually likes me, I'll be able to tell because he won't be hooking up with other girls while I think we're together and he'll respect things that I am not into such as excessive alcohol and drug use. So, in light me of LOVING that I've been right forever, I decided to share a passage from the book that relates directly to things that I'm dealing with a LOT right now as a young freshman in college.

Dear Greg,
My boyfriend is a lawyer and happens to smoke pot every night. When he does, he acts and talks just like he does when he's sober. I guess it's weird that he's always high and I'm not, but it doesn't seem to be an issue with us. My friends think it's weird that I'm dating a pothead. But it's not like he's really acting like a pothead, so what does it matter? I can't imagine how this has anything to do with how into me he is or not. Right?
-Shirley

Dear High Times,
Wrong! Let's take a quick health ed class on what pot does to the brain. Smoking pot makes your brain work slower, and makes you less in tune with your surroundings and more introverted. It dulls your senses and clouds and impairs your sense of reality. So he's always stoned when he's with you. That really means he likes you more when there's less of you. You're going out with someone that doesn't enjoy you at your full levels. That's tantamount to him liking you better when you're in the other room. This doesn't mean that he's not that into you. It just means that he likes his pot better than you. By the way, if he ever got arrested for pot, he most likely would lose his license, because criminals are not allowed to be officers of the court. So at least you're in good company, because he likes pot better than his job, too!

Don't be fooled. Don't let the guy who's not falling down drunk and peeing his pants get away with the fact that he is quietly, more gracefully, bombed out of his mind every single moment he's with you. It's still inebriation, it's still checking out, and it's still not good enough for you.

It's great, I love it :).

In OTHER book news, I recently (last night) finished reading The Time Traveler's Wife and if you have not read it yet you really should. It's a fantastic love story and is beautifully written.

I'm doing REALLY well on my goal list (20 before 20!) and I'm going to try and post a running list of accomplished goals on the side of my page so you can keep up with me :). I would also love to post a list of books I've read towards my book goal so that if you want you can read them as well.

Hmm.... any last things before I leave... Check out this cartoonist, his work is hilarious :).
